Massimo Vignelli Inspired Little 500 Poster

For this project, I had to create a Little 500 poster inspired by a famous graphic designer. I chose Massimo Vignelli, an Italian designer known for his clean, structured, modernist style. His use of grids, simple typography, and bold colors, especially in his New York City Subway Map, inspired my approach.

I used rounded lines to represent both a race track and subway routes, with four lines symbolizing the four riders on a Little 500 team. I incorporated bright colors and Helvetica typography to reflect Vignelli’s style while creating my own original design. Throughout the process, I focused on balancing simplicity with visual interest by using repetition and movement within the layout. This project helped me understand how structure, organization, and thoughtful design choices can create a strong visual impact. It also showed me how inspiration from another designer can be transformed into a unique concept rather than a direct copy.
