Caring
Partners Program Caring Partners is an extension of loss counseling. Its purpose is to provide emotional and organizational assistance to critically ill patients and their caregivers. Patients and caregivers typically have different needs while coping with illness, dying, and death. Emotionally, each may have difficulty accepting what is happening, be full of anger, or feel overwhelmed. They may even find that their needs conflict with one another. As a result, their relationship can become strained. The Caring Partners program provides a structure for supporting both the patient and the caregiver. Acting as a facilitator, I help them reconnect with one another emotionally, identify and understand each other’s needs, and develop a plan that meets as many of these needs as possible. Frequently, there are multiple caregivers as well as an extended group of family members and friends offering assistance. Under the guidance of the patient and primary caregiver, I will help form and sustain a caring team, or Caring Circle. Its goal is to support the patient and the primary caregiver, enriching their remaining days together through an ongoing process that promotes dialogue, understanding, and service.
